I was introduced to this website the other day by our Slow Food member, Stephanie Bartzick. She made these beet and apple muffins from the website that were absolutely delicious utilizing our CSA and the apples that we picked from the local orchard, Little Tree Orchards. Further exploration of this website has led me to believe that I am in love. These are some awesome recipes and awesome ways to...

Delicious Black Bean Burger! →
I just made the tastiest black bean burgers from this website—-> http://www.neverhomemaker.com/2010/08/around-world-black-bean-burgers.html
We added some avocado, tomatoes, and lettuce on top. It was delicious, filling and nutritious of course. A lot of the spices can be substituted, or others added, for example we added tumeric and tikka masala curry instead of the...

the big choice... choosing a CSA.
After much obsessive-compulsive, overly-organized research and a google docs spreadsheet highlighting all the local CSAs, I decided on Early Morning Farm. I’m really happy with my choice, but it was a really hard decision! I’ll highlight the local options that I deemed the best. Also, if you’re wondering what a CSA is, check this link out for a great definition!

Quinoa struggles
Throughout the fall, my mom kept sending me bags of quinoa. And I kept making it. I know it has excellent health benefits– it’s gluten-free, a complete protein, and full of calcium, iron, and B-vitamins not often found in a grain. But I never really liked it. I could never get it rinsed off well enough to get rid of that soapy flavor (due to my kitchen’s lack of a fine strainer),...

Book Review: Food Matters, A Guide to Conscious...
Mark Bittman gets a lot of criticism… he’s not a vegetarian and for years he was a foodie without an environmental message. He started to have health problems, read a few studies in the news, and decided to change the way he looked at food.
I really respect him for this, and I think that this book has had more of an impact on me than others because it’s reasonable....

My favorite snack
Cauliflower. The first thing that I picked up when I went into Wegman’s today. A head is priced at $2.99 by quantity rather than weight, so I just grab the biggest one possible and can usually get 6 or 7 servings out of it. In addition to being awesome roasted and in so many recipes, I love it just steamed with salt and pepper. I know I may be alone in this, but I thought I’d share...

A list of books that you should read!
I am extremely interested in the food industry and how our society has gotten hooked on processed foods, and the politics behind it. Many American children can’t even identify vegetables and fruits when they see them. I think this is an absolutely devastating fact. If children are brought up on packaged, processed, chemically altered food, their lives will be significantly shorter and more...

Filling your belly well.
Today a friend and I were talking about adjusting her eating habits to be healthier overall. Her problem, however, was that by eating the foods she views as healthy, she always winds up hungry soon after. I mumbled a little bit about simple sugars and complex starches, not really knowing what I was saying, then changed the topic. But it was eating at me (no pun intended) so I went back to my...
